Spike 171
Hi. New to this forum and had my NC750S now for just over 2 weeks now and loving it! But, I cant figure out or find out if i should be checking the oil level with the bike leaning on the sidestand or when it is upright? Also should I check from cold or from warm? If the engine is cold, idle the engine for 3 to 5 minutes. 2. Turn the ignition switch off, stop the engine and wait for 2 to 3 minutes. 3. Place your motorcycle in an upright position on a firm, level surface. 4. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick and wipe it clean. 5. Insert the oil fill cap/dipstick until it seats, but don’t screw it in. Check that the oil level is between the upper and lower level marks in the oil fill cap/dipstick. 6. Securely install the oil fill cap/dipstick. Link to post

Guest bonekicker
Spike your head is full of just riding and enjoying your bike--the sensible maintenance things have not clicked in yet--we all do the same--and it's no problem at all --ask what ever--and another good member-- as Akin just did --will help you--that's what this forum is for. Assuming the dealer dealt with the oil correctly, I didn't check it. 1000 miles later I have followed the instructions below and can just see oil on the very bottom of the dipstick. I can deal with guilt for me and annoyance at the dealer later but first I need to get the level back up. I can't find my manual so need to know what oil is in there so u can buy more. Anybody not enjoying the sunshine and able to help? Link to post

GerJ 209
Are you sure that the bike stands level, both L-R and F-A? The NC seems very sensitive to level placement when checking oil. My wife's NC consumes no oil at all, and at home the oil level is always a bit over max, so we stopped carrying oil for the Honda in our luggage. Over a week ago in the Eifel we had a bit of a scare when on Wednesday the level was halfway between min and max, and on Friday barely over min. On our way home we passed by a motorbike garage in St Vith, checked again, and then it was at max; at home on its customary place it was back to the usual level. The trick seems to be: Make sure that the bike is filled to max; check this on an absolutely level (garage) floor. Check the level again on the bike's customary parking spot at home. Now that reading is your reference. I find checking oil levels (2 bikes) on vacation annoying, since in all the best motorcycling regions not one level parking spot is to be found. trisaki 2,029
Feet either side makes things more or less level , as long as you arnt on a slope , but use common sense , Link to post
GerJ 209
Did not work for us in the Eifel. Neither my wife nor I come with built-in spirit levels. 1 Link to post
