With the official system, is the socket always live?

I would think it's only a ignition live--not having the Honda one fitted it's only a guess--I have 2 on bike--1 is on all the time--for charging mobile phone if needed the other is for air compressor then it's best to have the  engine running--just in case it flats battery--but needs to be more than 1amp or will blow everytime-- I think mine is 5amp but really cant remember

I want to use the socket for a battery minder so an always live socket is needed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Honda power outlet is only rated at 36w. I've fitted a direct to battery fused outlet capable of driving an air compressor. On long journeys I carry it along with a plugging kit for tubeless tyres.

I fitted an Oxford optimate fused tail direct to the battery, the waterproof  socket is fastened to the left handlebar riser. I carry a short tail with a cigarette lighter socket one end, and optimate plug on the other.

No drilling needed.

Im confident this will give good use for most accessories.
