How to identify year of manufacture

Ok. As the topic says how do you determine which year a bike was built in? The bike I am getting was registered March 16 but it still has the old style round chrome exhaust. I want a Givi rack but when you look they are 14-15 or 16-17. I have the Vin no. So hopefully someone has the answer.

 I  think . The tenth digit in the VIN signifies the year the motor vehicle was manufactured. This digit can be either alphabetic or numeric. The following chart identifies the model years of motor vehicles manufactured from the year 1980 until the year 2039.
