Are the other functions displayed? Tacho runs through on power up......

Service manual suggests Speedometer/VS sensor problem for no speedo readout.

There is a whole section on Combo meter test in the service manual.

That’s another way of looking at it, I suppose.

I'd go with Lyn's suggestion as a very likely culprit, plug on the back of the instrument pack has been known for such issues.

I'd be checking :

blown fuse,

male connector (for damaged/dislodged pins),

female connector (for damaged/blocked sockets),

earth lead from instrument panel to frame,

other cables from inst. panel.

Good luck on tracking any breakage in that rat's nest!

Update , refitted battery all good ,speedo  and total mileage  now back on screen but did pull out the main connection  on back of dash looked fine sprayed  with electrical  spray put back together  and test rode , all seems good , will let customer  ride now service  is complete , and see if it packs up again  , keep everything  crossed  otherwise  could be a bit  pricey
