I can strongly recommend the buttered chicken curry kit if you are going.

I went into Aldi for some chain cleaner and lube, I came out with a bird bath, a kite, a paddling pool and some donuts. I completely failed to get any cleaner or lube!

That's a lot of chain lube, fair play to her for spending that much on your hobby

Thanks! I use Putoline chain spray, but I rate the WD40 chain cleaner. I get excellent results from it. :niceone:

Clean the chain then use either lube or wax. Lube and wax are just two different way of doing the same job so you don’t do both. It’s a bit like the way you can use a spray polish or a wax polish just a matter of personal preference.

Get one of each (wax and lube) and try them both out to see which you prefer. I prefer wax, as it's easier to see where you've put it. However, I was once following a chap who obviously didn't clean his chain very often, because a great lump of wax and filth flew off his bike and hit me in the chest (and my new pale blue Alpinestars jacket. :(

If I remember rightly, think the wax can says for use in dry conditions, and the lube says for use in rain. My cans are in the garage...will check, if I remember. I've never used wax before, so this is a new one on me. Bought one, just for the hell of it. They are also knocking out standard WD40 spray with 50% extra free at a good price, by the way.

Chain cleaner for me.  I've a Tutoro thingy that lubes it beautifully. Going to get some chainsaw oil from B&Q for £8/litre.  Just the right viscosity for the year round temps.  Just adjusting the flow rate to suit.  The chain has 4500 miles on it now with no adjustment needed and it cleans up like new.

Just had a look at the cans....they recommend the lube for dry conditions and the wax for wet conditions.

Don't thank me, thank WD40! Was the same for me on this one, Simon. Was only in Aldi, pondering which to buy, that this solution to a problem I never realised existed manifested itself. Ended up buying a couple of both.

“Where are you off to?”

”Just popping out to the shed, my love. The forecast says rain tomorrow so I need to clean the lube off my chain and re-do it with wax..” ;)

Only 200ML cans but still a good buy!

Thanks for the tip-off John, I used WD40 Specialist range  all the time and cannot fault it.

Does it stay on the chain for long? What about fling? Is it easy to clean off afterwards?

Reminds me of my brief experience with cross country skiing. Different waxes for different temps. Forever changing based on weather.  Deciding Is today red wax or blue?

Chain, no idea but it lingers in the house for at least 24 hours I would say.

I still use paraffin sometimes, Tony, but I find the WD40 cleaner much quicker and less messy. :)

Popped in to the nearest ALDI (MK) on the way home from work yesterday and they still had loads on the shelf.

Bought three cans of each. (cleaner/lube/wax) I do like the 200ml cans simply because you can take them with you on a long haul.

(I do not use an automatic chain oiler)

I tend to over do it with my chain if I am off on a long haul into Spain.

I will thoroughly clean it,  give it a damn good lubing and as I mostly do this when it is cooled down I then seal the job with the wax which also acts as a barrier for the lube so there is little fling. Its belt & braces in case we run into or leave in wet weather. Overkill or extreme lubing I know.

I used to be able to pick up these products from Halfords motoring store which I have around the corner but they no longer sell the WD40 specialist products, bad Halfords!

Thanks again to John Y for the tip off. Appreciated!
