Ah the memories. SS Nevasa (converted troop ship) school cruise, 1974. 'E' deck, with the bulkhead curve you mention. 28 of us in a dorm. First morning was a very rough Bay of Biscay. Feeling queasy. Cue a sprint up about 6 flights of stairs to fresh air. Rows of students hanging over the rail with streams of green puke emanating from their mouths, blowing in the breeze. Happy days

Another Navasa educational cruise  victim with 28 in a dorm and foul weather in the bay, prior to steaming to Funchal, Tangier and Lisbon. My main memory was sitting in deckchairs near where the crew entered their quarters, shouting out the immortal words 'sub de kai' (or something similar) and every now and then a Lascar sailor rewarded us with a can of 'Double Diamond'. We were 11 at the time so showed everyone that our school promoted underage drinking (and smoking), Lulu had released 'shout' so I guess it was 1965. Was severely dissapointed we could no get enough for a fellow short blonde hair pupil 'Bell'. We got the arab in Tangier up to £2.00 but a bottle of gin was £3. Selling a schoolmate into slavery seemed a good idea at the time, come to think of it, I would be happy for some of the people I have met down the following years to have that done to them, although initially they probably would have difficulty sitting down if it were in Tangier. We had already blown our money on Madera wine to take home to our parents but we forgot and drank it ourselves. Fags were more difficult though! Happy days!

My grandad was a lagger at the V&A docks hickky and I haven’t heard the word “lascar” for years :0) blimey that brought some memories back.

was used to seeing all sorts in and around my area. (West Ham) didn’t even realise it was so cosmopolitan . has for school trips and their educational purpose . These mainly consisted of the importation of flick knives and porno playing cards. How grown up we felt looking at a girl with the biggest Bridget Jones knickers on and boobs out while holding a broken knife . Must have kept Calais open prior to the booze and fags runs :0). Talk about innocent then .

I thought I'd done stuff over the years - but reading this lot above it appears I've led a rather sheltered life

Also. I'm feeling a bit better
