Refixing Heated Grip

Recommended Posts

Spike

Spending my time now trying to do all those odd things that I have been putting off!

My left hand heated grip can move once the grips get warm , but its fine when not being used. What is the best adhesive to use to restick this?

Impact type adhesive i always use..Super glue if you do not intend to use full power..as heat will unstick super glue..

Put a little impact stuff on the bars, put some into the grip tube and spread it with a long thin screwdriver...push the

grip on in one smooth movement if possible, try not to twist the grip as this is where the faults come from.

If it's the Oxford grips the glue that came with them isn't great.

Decent superglue will be fine. I used the Gorilla Glue version when I fitted my last ones.

Hair spray is what I used years ago. Worked a treat.

Superglue comes in various temp ratings - most of the high temp stuff seems specialist and expensive. I did a lot of looking around and found that 'no nonsense' superglue from Screwfix had a slightly higher temp rating. - I used it on my heated grips 2 years ago and its been perfect no issues, and I run the grips every day in the winter commute - so I would recommend this.

I always use Honda's own Handgrip Cement, not cheap but it works.

Part number:- 08CRD-HGC-20GHE

Contact adhesives are very heat sensitive so unsuitable for heated grips.  Epoxies will give up at oven temp but should be fine under heated grips.  The super glue which comes with Oxfords works well, as you'd expect.

Hmmm, not for me it doesn't,

I've had problems with the Oxford glue giving up the ghost on a couple of occasions, never had an issue with the Honda Grip Cement.
