NC750X DCT - Refuses to engage gears !

After a short run to the local petrol station this morning, the bike refused to engage D or S (and I did lift the side stand). I had a problem with the DCT before assocated with not engaging the clutch quickly at a standstill and 'Steve700X' very kindly provided me with a code to reset the DCT which worked but this time the system refused to accept the code. When the bike starts there are the initial dashes in the gear shift window but only for a couple of seconds and then the window is blank. Engine runs smooth and starts first time as always just will no engage gears.

I called the AA and they collected the bike and took it to the Honda dealer for inspection. The dealer just called and said that they need to call a specialist (I thought the main dealer was supposed to be a specialist) and I am waiting for the verdict. The bikes only 9 months old with 9K on the clock so a little disappointed. This is a Hong Kong Honda dealer before anyone asks the question and I will share the feeback !

And that is why the DCT needs developing more before I'll entertain one, hope you get it sorted soon..... ;)

sorry to hear that.mines at 8k and no problems with gears so far.

It'll turn out to be a poor connection somewhere, almost certainly. Although why a main dealer needs to call a 'specialist' is a worry. I think it says more about the dealer than the Honda DCT.

Oh, and try getting a 'manual' into gear if your neutral (or side stand) switch fails.. :)

Just re-read your original post. The AA operate in Hong Kong? Who knew? I'd have asked for a transfer..

I hope that they get your bike sorted very quickly. sadly the more complex they make things the more there is to go wrong

For some reason we seem to have two threads for this. Maybe Ted could merge them

This is interesting because I THINK it happened to me the other day. I tried three times to get my 750x into drive, but to no avail. I put it down to my thick gloves not pushing the switch properly, although I had done it many times before. I took off my glove, did it again and it went into drive. Perhaps it was the glove, but now I'm a little concerned. As a point, did you try to ride the bike using the manual gear controls?

During this Mondays refueling pitstop, I got distracted and accidently lowered the sidestand with the gearbox in D1 and the engine shut down as it is supposed to do. After refueling, the engine started fine but the DCT refused to engage the gears. I had an unrelated DCT problem a few months ago with the DCT not engaging the clutch when slowing down to a standstill and 'Steve 700X' very kindly gave me the reset code for the DCT which cleared the previous problem and I had this piece of paper with me in the frunk and tried to insert the code but the system refused to accept the code.

Called AA rescue, took the bike to the Honda dealer and picked it up the next day all fixed. They said that by lowering the side stand whilst the DCT was in gear was a mjaor no-no and usually requires the delear to reset the DCT but they would not tell me what specific action they had taken as I could not get the system to initially register the code so they must have done something different - they may have simply disconnected the battery and then inserted the code but I would be interested to know if anyone out there has any ideas as I suspect at some time in the future this will happen again and my warranty will have expired.

By the way my speedo console was changed by the dealer as part of a global recall at the same time so the unstable mileage reset issue is not just limited to the UK (I am a Brit based in Hong Kong). Would have preferred to keep the original as it was fine but they did'nt ask.

What was wrong with your other thread?

Moved and merged... this isn't for the first time!

Try and keep a grip on what you post eh?

I have inadvertently stopped mine many times putting side stand down with engine running. Never had a problem.  Too common a thing for Honda to consider this a problem causing no-no. Something else going on with yours.

I have had this a couple of times recently.I very rarely use the sidestand and have used it on a couple of times recently.I will ask the dealer in the next couple of weeks as I have a service booked in.

I did find pushing  the bike with the rear brake applied got the bike into gear.

I have the same problem. I think it's the side stand switch. If I use it and leave it overnight, it won't select a gear, put the side stand back down and proper boot it back into rest mode it allows gear selection. Never done it on the main stand.

When it's running and I drop the side stand down it does nothing. Switch is iffy. I'm going to batter it with contact cleaner and wd40, it only started when I Rode it in a storm after the previous owner never getting it wet.

BMW side-stand switches - about the size of a half-crown and 4 mm thick - were notoriously prone to failure, so you couldn't put the bike into gear.  I still have two spares in my jumble drawer in the garage, complete with their cable and special German plug.  Back in the days of the wonderful K75 Triple, pulling in the clutch lever would neatly lift up a sticking-out side-stand.  But that was way back in the days when BMW designed and entirely German-made truly great, high-quality, fabulously durable bikes.

Water and / or grit would get past the plastic cover of the Russian or Chinese outsourced side-stand switch on later bikes and stop the circuit working properly - a real pain.  Maybe the same applies to Honda side-stand switches if they're splashed through a big puddle or whatever.

Personally ~ on the new DCT Honda I ALWAYS click into 'N' before switching the key to OFF when I come to a stop and also I NEVER use the Kill Switch - ever. Clearly I'd never drop the side stand down before doing the 'N' switch, altho' I must admit to several times after wheeling the bike out of the garage with the motor running and then trying to engage D or S with the stand still down.  Nothing responds until you fold it back in and then try the D or S switch again.

I had the same problem, thought it was Sidestand switch. Couldn't see the switch so just covered it in wd40 and then some spray grease. Worked for a few weeks then did it again. I tightened up the chain tension and it's been fine since for months and 2k km. There may be a sensor on chain tension that causes an issue but a quick tighten, never done it again.

Hope that helps

This is incorrect and the dealer should refrain from such "scare stories".

In the manual it even says that you should carry out precisely this check in order to make sure the side stand switch is working.
