Rear brake master cylinder

Hi,

My mechanic has advised that I need a rear brake master cylinder in order to change the oil. The screws have rusted up so the cap cannot be removed so I don't need a full part. I'm having trouble sourcing one for my 2014 NC750S.

Cheers,

Remove the master cylinder from the bike.

Drill the heads off the bolts.

Remove the reservoir cover

Blather the lot in easing oil/plus gas. Give each stud a brief whack with a hammer. File flats on them etc.

Leave overnight.

Use mole grips to remove.

Run a tap down the theads to clear them.

Buy a gasket and two new bolts.

Assembly is not in the reverse order of removal but is much easier.

Ditch the "Technician/part swapper" and find a real mechanic.

Although I agree with you but if the OP isn't mechanically minded and is paying £60+vat an hour ( which seems to be the going rate) it could be cheaper to source a 2nd hand unit.🤔

In which case, post me the unit removed from the bike plus a pre-paid label to send it back and give me a fortnight. Assuming all goes well it'll be returned with instructions on what parts to order. Worst case it is ****ed and the postage is wasted. Best case I already have suitable bolts.

PM me for where to send it.

In your position you could just leave the brake fluid (not oil) as it is unless, for some reason, the level is low. It's not critical to change it and you can use the time to source another master cylinder or find a way of removing the screws.

You can get the cylinder as a seperate part !  most workshops have odd ones left over from  jobs

most mechanics (not fitters) would a sAndy says remove it and remove the screws sadly Quality training seems rare!

I wouldn't have thought you need a master cylinder but just the reservoir.
