Guest EternalDragon
Anyone ever try the Pirelli angel tires on the NC700x? They are going to be my next purchase when I need new tires. I ride in rain at times and these are said to offer good wet traction. Plus doing some touring (8 hour ride) in the summer. Link to post

Found them They are like $30 more for a pair than the Pirelli's. They do seem better. Link to post
Guest Tiger-WP
I've had both Angels and PR3's on my Tiger 1050 and would look at PR3's for the NCX when a replacement is due. PR3's are excellent in the wet. Link to post
Rocker66 34,573
I had Angels on my Crossrunner and thought that they were good. That was until I rode a bike with PR3s which I found far superior especially in the wet. well worth paying a bit extra for Link to post
Guest Lockon2
Also had PR3's on my Tiger 1050 and found them to be the best for me, going to fit on the X when the time comes. Link to post
Guest kedzis
i am not sure which are better, i had 3 sets of Angels and was very happy with it, bought PR3s to try something new but weather was not very good to test them properly and then i sold my bike.. can't say which are better but so far i felt more confident on Angels and preferred their feeling.(i had them on CB1000R and every set last for 10k miles). Rocker66 34,573
It's when the weather is not very good that the PR3s come into their own Link to post
Guest Blackbird
Also have a look at the Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact. Reportedly better in the wet the the Pilot Road 3. Link to post

PR3s are certainly the best tyres I've ever had in the wet, they even let go more controllably in extreme circumstances, but I don't recommend you try it! Link to post
Guest Blackbird
Tested by Motorcycle News (UK) and Motorrad (Germany) with both publications saying the Metzeler came out on top. Link to post
Guest divetrucker
The Metzler Roadtec X8 is what my bike has come fitted with. It seems like a confident feeling tyre but I have no comparisons with other tyres on this bike. Link to post
Guest Tiger-WP
Tested by Motorcycle News (UK) and Motorrad (Germany) with both publications saying the Metzeler came out on top. Depends who's doing the reviewing I guess? Some research I did today indicates that UK's Feb 2011 Bike Magazine had the Metzlers wayyyy down their list: Top of the pile with 5/5 stars is the new PR3 tyre. The reviewer says The best yet, by miles. More confidence and outright grip. I could confidently drag my knees through inch-deep puddles every lap...These are the best road tyres I've used in the wet. They tick every box. The tester was riding a Suzuki GSX1250. So the order and ranking is : 1. Michelin PR3 - 5/5 - The best road tyre in the wet 2. Dunlop Roadsmart - 4/5 - Three years old but a brilliant road tyre 2. (equal) Bridgestone BT-023GT - 4/5 - Good but less sporty than the Dunlops 4. Michelin PR 2 - 3/5 - A good all-round tyre 4. (equal) Pirelli Angel ST - 3/5 - Only for those who prioritise stability 6. Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact - 2/5 - Quick, but don't inspire confidence 7. Avon Storm 2 Ultra - 1/5 - Avon should try a Pilot Road 3 There is a reason I am revisiting this thread. I have lost all faith in the Metzler Roadtac Z8's my NCX came standard with. For the second time now the rear has left me momentarily in a corner in dry conditions at what I would call moderate speed, something I have never experienced with a few sets of Pirelli Angels or PR3's on my Versys or Tiger 1050. The Metzlers have only done 5000km and I'm pretty sure I'm just going to turf them. Having THAT feeling or even worse, taking a tumble, is just not worth it. Link to post
Guest Blackbird
The Feb 2011 test was done using the old "C" Z8. The current Z8 is the M/O, which has a different compound. It is the M/O version that is rated above the PR3. Link to post
Guest GBH
The new Z8 is fantastic. I had them first on my VFR12 and when I noticed my new NC700S had Bridgestones but the other bikes in the showroom had Z8's I got the dealer to swap the wheels so I have the same tyres on both bikes! Link to post
Rocker66 34,573
Now Bridgestone are replacing the 023 with the T30. Report in this weeks MCN Link to post
