Front axle spacers

Had the front wheel out to have tyre fitted.

The spacer on the left side, as sitting on the bike, doesn't seem to sit right with the fork leg.

Please can anyone who has not had the front wheel off, take a close up photo from the front to show the spacer and fork leg so I can compare.

Thanx in advance

Presumably you mean the seal collar item 4.

On the brake side this collar acts as the stop for tightening the spindle as it screws into the fork leg. On the other (left) side which has the big hex socket in the spindle, the shoulder on the spindle tightens against the collar to clamp it up into the brake side leg, but then you simply tighten the pinch bolt in the left leg to clamp the spindle. There is a gap of maybe 3 or 4mm between the collar and the fork leg.

It's done like this so that any tolerances in distance between the fork legs compared to the spindle/collar stack doesn't mean the fork legs get bent out of parallel, also it means a much easier task to fit the wheel since it isn't all a tight fit between the legs (ooer Matron).

Thank you Murray, exactly what I needed.

I was concerned that the left spacer wasn't fully home but your schematic proves it is.

Many thanks
