  1. Nope. In the service book it says: "It is your responsibility to ensure that services are performed at the specified period and the service record is appropriately endorsed" So that is what I did. I carefully filled in the service book, noting the type of oil and filters used, and signed it in my best hand!

  2. You didn't take that out did you? Its supposed to be there. Specially formulated tolerance and clearances filler with added lapping polish to take off those machining edges Highly technical stuff

  3. I've never understood the delight some folk have in hearing an open dry Ducati clutch. I was on hols once with a chap on a Duke so equipped and it was truly awful. Some noises are nice, others are offensive. Each to their own I suppose.

  4. If you think they were rattly you should have heard my Ducati Multistrada with its dry clutch fitted with a carbon ventilated cover. On one occasion I pulled up behind a young lad driving a real old banger of a car. He heard my clutch as waslooking around his car as if to stay now whats gone wrong with it

  5. I was already thinking on going DIY when the dealers mechanic was taken suddenly and unexpectedly on paternity leave (don't ask, its Wakefield). On the plus side I know what I'm doing and actually give a flying telegraph pole. On the minus side, while every single dealer will try and get out of any warranty claim and you might need a lawyer anyway, I've decreased my chances of making a hassle free claim. Having found they'd overfilled the oil and missed an incorrectly fitted air filter cover I'm happy with my decision. I may have an advantage in that I can show I've worked on vehicles for 20-

  6. you can use full throttle after 300 miles, as its ran in by then. Going up to around 800 miles to the first service wont do any damage.

  7. I suppose that's why there's jazz, opera, rock and blues as well. Each to their own. (I agree - not a fan of the dry clutch rattle but by god it's a beautiful piece of kit to look at)

  8. Hi I just wanted to say a thanks to Emblee for the suggestion about carrying out the initiation procedure. It worked a treat and the rear wheel no longer rotates when the bike is on the centre stand. It wasn't immediate though, just after a run on it, it made a difference. Cheers A

  9. We get paid for an extra hour when the clocks go back in October, but don't get an hour taken away when they go forward! I missed the clock change in March, but will be on night shift for it in October.

  10. Our union had it Sussex when we worked the extra hour we got paid for it and when we did an hour less we still got paid for a full shift. Never had to work a Christmas Day although Sue has. When I was single I would swap with one of the married guys to do his Boxing Day shift so that he would work for me to allow me to have New Years Eve evening/night or New Years Day off as it was the birthday of the landlady of the pub I used in Faversham. Once the pub had closed a selected few of us would go upstairs for an all night party. Happy Days..

  11. The thing I could never work out is when the clocks go forward at 02:00 which obviously then becomes 03:00 if a train is booked to depart at 02:30 what time should it actually depart as there is no 02:30 that day..

  12. They were the cats from the place I was staying. However if I mistimed it I would get held up going out in the morning or returning in the afternoon by a herd of cows being brought in for milking. I would stop well clear of them but one cow always seemed to wander over to investigate until brought back in line by the dog

  13. But you should see the yard the cottage was in and the state of the lane used to access it

  14. Me neither, I took off the open cover fitted by the original owner and put the original closed cover back on. It still rattled like a cement mixer part full of half bricks, but cut the volume significantly. It also stopped stones, rain, small children and animals getting jammed in it. 🤐😁

  15. Yoir last scentence sums it up. I find Scat music an offensive noise but others love it For me the dry clutch was part of the Ducati experiance.

  16. Those of us who have the (very great) pleasure of riding a 90's Triumph triple or four will know what gargling with a pint of 1/2 inch bolts sounds like at tickover. And like Rocker I've owned a Ducati with an open dry clutch, every other bike is a whisperer by comparison, even when their bottom ends are dropping out. Brian

  17. Those of us who've had the dubious pleasure of owning British bikes from the 60s and 70s will, of course, know what real engine clatter sounds like. I remember riding things that sounded like they had a bolt inside the cylinder, hammering between piston and cylinder head. Others had valve gear that was so loud you could hear it before the exhaust note when your mate was driving up to your house. Compared with those the NC is almost silent, I guess. But they are a bit noisy for a Honda.

  18. My Integra sounded like two skeletons shagging in a metal box. But it flew! So I never worried about it..

  19. I was at first going to have a go at bonekicker for 'patronising' you Steve but then decided not to 😀😀. Because there is something in what he says - I'm terrified of all the noises that my bikes make if I ride them without my usual earplugs But it goes deeper than the sound. If it doesn't sound right then it may also be not vibrating right either. To give an example My Rocket3 annoyed me intensely at tootling speeds because it seemed to have a hesitation and surging at low revs which I put down to Euro 3 compliance because I had had the triumph dealer check most things including.
