  1. You've nailed it. The pre-load setting alters only the ride height. You want the suspension to sag by about a third of its total travel (i.e. from topped out) when you are sitting on the bike ("experts" differ on the ideal amount) . That puts the suspension in the optimum place to respond to bumps and dips in the road. The pre-load setting is there to set the amount of sag. If you've got short legs, like I have, you may find the seat height a bit high for comfort, so you can wind down the pre-load (i.e. increase the sag) a bit more, to maybe half the total travel, but be aware

  2. No I don't need to replace it yet as my bike has only 2300 Kms genuine on the clock and is in concourse condition. Just wondering how releasing the tension wound affect the ride height etc.

  3. Mityvac. Others are available. Big advantage of the vac systems is that you have a steady flow of fluid which purges air effectively. It makes changing fluid a 10min job, right first time.

  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Honda power outlet is only rated at 36w. I've fitted a direct to battery fused outlet capable of driving an air compressor. On long journeys I carry it along with a plugging kit for tubeless tyres.

  5. Just to say that, on the DCT, it's probably important to stick to the correct viscosity grade as well as the JASO rating. I recall that the DCT control unit is programmed to take into account the changing viscosity of the oil with temperature, so I imagine it's important to use oil of the viscosity the ECU is expecting.

  6. The inside pad seems to wear quicker, for me at least, last time I changed them the outer pad (the easier one to see) was about 1.5mm, the inside pad was just about flush though.

  7. Chains have been replaced under warranty in the past. The full term is "fair wear and tear" and it all hinges on 'fair'. Is it fair that you have to buy a chain for a brand new motorcycle? Of course not!! Don't stand for any of that old bull shit. Any dealer worth his salt would go into bat for you - yours sounds like he's wimping out.
