  1. This all makes me feel that if you (meaning anyone really) have the desire and inclination then to do it yourself is the only cast iron guarantee of trouble free motoring. Also smug satisfaction to add another.

  2. I'm really failing to see the value in these fixed price service packages. As far as I can see the cost would pretty much be the same (or perhaps even slightly higher) than what I am currently paying for the same services at my dealer. But I am payign in advance and begin locked in/ Much rather the money remained in my pocket/bank than in Honda's until absolutely necessary. Now if there was some kind of perceived discount for paying in advance I might see the appeal, but as it stand looks like poor value to me

  3. Why would cost relate to selling price? Price is just a reflection of what the market is prepared to pay. Small scooters are used for transport, the running cost can only be a limited amount above a bus ticket. A Ducati with demonic valves would let you add a grand. The owners will love the conversation in the pub about how they just spent half a months salary and the rear cylinders back up thrunging sprocket was out by 10 thou and the dealer had to import coffee from Italy to make the service last a fortnight. They need a simple price structure or both buyer and sales staff will conclude the

  4. It could be that the rear wheel was reducing speed (slipping) to the point that as far as the DCT was concerned it was coming to a standstill so disengaged the clutch. Once this happened the wheel began to turn at road speed again, and when you opened the throttle it took up the drive as normal. Just guessing ....... It certainly doesn't go into freewheel mode on normal surfaces until you reach a very slow speed to avoid engine stalling.

  5. I agree the costs look high, however from a car perspective, i paid £500 for a 3 year / 4 service, service pack on a new Ranger Rover my wife had couple of years ago. Now £500 for 4 services was a fantastic bargain - that's the sort of deal that makes sense.

  6. I'm in complete agreement. He left himself short of time and fudged up an excuse. Either that or he looked at getting the panels off and thought 'F*** That!' Anyone who has ever removed the body panels from an Integra will tell you what an absolute pain in the arse it is. There would be fingerprints everywhere!! And no one (in their right mind) would put one all back together again knowing he had to do it all again next week! You'd walk 5 miles barefoot (over broken glass) to avoid that situation.

  7. Sounds like a better 'plan' than the Honda one!

  8. Thanks all. Well, my mileage has dropped off considerably since I've taken this new job, and it's not likely that I'll have reached the first big service while the bike is still in warranty. So I'll pay for two dealer services and take it to my local (faultless and very cheap) mechanic at 16k miles.

  9. The DCT will not allow shifts if it calculates the RPM will be too high, and also does not allow you to bog and stall so will shift down to prevent this. Try it faster in a higher gear it will also shift down if you don't as speed falls. It doesn't work the other way though and will allow you to hit the limiter although I wouldn't be surprised if it also didn't shift up after a period of limiter hitting, if you were daft enough to keep it there. Never tried it and I bet no one else has!

  11. Could be worse, it only takes two minutes to put a new stripe of "checked" paint across the drain plug, chuck a slug of oil in to slighly change the level and colour and fill out the paperwork. Colin Appleyards were so good they even stocked the same colour of paint marker I'd used to put a big cross on the old filter. That's attention to detail when they can draw an identical mark on the new one. DIY: Don't Indulge Your dealer Andy

  12. Mityvac. Others are available. Big advantage of the vac systems is that you have a steady flow of fluid which purges air effectively. It makes changing fluid a 10min job, right first time.

  13. I also had that same Mityvac for many years and just replaced it with this, the metal bodied one at the top of this page:- http://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp Mityvac kit is so well made it is worth paying for.
