Guest chickenflaps
£251 including free courtesy bike. I think this is pretty much top dollar and it really amounts to nothing more than a good check over, oil and filter change, and a valve tappet check which I'm certain the dealer did as I spent a while chatting to the mechanic who did it. The tappets didn't need adjusting and the mechanic doubted they'd need adjusting at 16k either from his experience. Interestingly, although this job seems to me to be a real nuisance involving emptying and lowering the radiator in order to get the lid off the engine, the tappets are easily adjusted (locknut not shim) and the fellah said it was a "piece of p*ss) to do. I only paid this bill (largely three hours at £56ph) as I'm 16 months into a 24 month warranty, but once that's expired I think I'll be doing my own servicing. My courtesy bike was an S which strangely seemed to have a nicer gear shift than my X but still feels a bit too cramped for my height...the reason I bought the X in the first place. An instructor at the dealership (not a salesman) owns and loves his NC and thought the only reason the new 750 had come into existence was to push learners into buying the 500 as most were opting for the NC700 given the choice between the two. At 750 ccs with a slightly higher power output this will now be beyond the reach of some learners I believe, until the next change of laws when the 750 will most likely grow into an 800 for the same reason. Guest Naz
my dealer is offering to do it for £160 without the valve check, but I guess if the engine were to go wrong subsequently, Honda could say the servicing wasn't done properly? Would you be able to tell whether a dealer had checked the valve clearances if that's what they said they were going to do. Mike Good point. They don't always do what they say they will do and charge you for it. I once got charged for valve clearance check for a brand new Transalp 600 mile service! And they had not done it. Guest SimonR
Neil and Tony, being Herts boys, was the dealer in each case at Letchworth, or where otherwise? Link to post
tc3 1,095
Neil and Tony, being Herts boys, was the dealer in each case at Letchworth, or where otherwise? Hi Simon yes I got mine at Letchworth and I think Neil did too. Call Firstline motorcycles in Barnet and get a quote as they usually cheaper and then ask Letchworth to price match. Link to post

Thats odd ..... i always thought the back would need replacing well before the front .... thats the way mine seems to be wearing anyhow Link to post
chris 357
You usually replace two back tyres for one front - maybe the clue is in the front pads wearing out at only 7,000 too. Link to post

Lenp, I live near Kingsbridge and bought my bike from Bridge. When I had the 8000 service to do, I 'phoned GT and Bridge who both had similar quotes around the £300 mark. I went to the Honda Dealer in Newton Abbot in the end who were nearly £100 cheaper and did a superb job, including the valves. I'd try them, I was really pleased with their service. We are able to provide such a unique service to our customers because we only have a few dedicated staff, who care about the business. We are a small 'family' run business which has been selling and servicing new and used motorbikes under our ownership for just over 5 years and prior to that for over 40 years. We have been a Solus specialist dealer for almost 15 years. The dealership has a strong emphasis on customer aftercare, aiming to provide an individual service to all our customers. With only a small band of staff, we are able to get to know our customers better than most and regularly welcome them in for a chat and a coffee. In our workshop we have a highly experienced technician, licensed by Honda, but trained to work on all makes and models of bikes. We are happy to service or MOT your motorcycle even if you didn't purchase it from us." Edited February 28, 2014 by EasyTiger Link to post

Slowboy 20,505
Sorry it was on the 1/3/14 Blimey, turn you back for five minutes.... Would be interested to know how things went if you decided to go there. I really would like to avoid the big dealers down here, I've got experience of both which is a bit mixed at best. Also Newton Abbot is only about 20 miles from where I live. Link to post
